In-person class

Story Makers: A Letter from the Field (Grades 2–3)

$30.00

A calm, creative class for growing writers, including those who are reluctant to put pencil to paper. We’ll read Scarecrow by Cynthia Rylant, a lyrical picture book about a scarecrow who quietly watches the seasons change. Then children will step into his shoes.

What we’ll do

  • Practice noticing like a scarecrow, collecting what we see, hear, and feel
  • Build and name a personalized scarecrow
  • Write a card in our scarecrow’s voice, using real sensory details, then address and “mail” it

Sentence starters are on hand for anyone who wants a boost. One strong sentence counts, and so does a full page.

Details

  • Grades 2–3
  • Drop-off class
  • Only 6 spaces, so every child gets individual attention
  • All materials included
  • Children go home with their scarecrow and card
